Assignments are a way to test your learners knowledge using longer form questions and answers. You can set up an assignment with multiple activities and and have assessors mark submissions from your learners.

Creating an Assignment

  1. Navigate to the list of Assignments under Content Creation from the Main Menu.
  2. Select 'Create' on the Assignment list and a lightbox will show.
  3. Provide a name and description for your new Assignment.
  4. Select 'Submit' and you'll be taken to the Assignment Editor.

Assignment Editor

The Assignment Editor is made up of the main toolbar, the structure of your assignment and the properties of the items you've selected in your assignment. 

Assignment Structure

An Assignment is made up of activities. You can add activities to your Assignment with the 'Add Activity' button.

To amend the details of your assignment or its activities, select it from the structure. The properties for that item will then be shown in the properties panel.

To move an activity, select it in the structure and use the up and down arrows.

To remove an activity, select the 'X' button.

Grading

Manage a grading system for your Assignment. A grading system lets you set the bands at which you will grade the submissions. 

Each grading level has the following properties:

  • Range, between 0 and 100.
  • Grading Level label, what the learner will earn. For example, this could be pass, merit, distinction, etc. 
  • Grading Colour, a visual indicator for the grading level. 
  • Is lowest pass grade option, one of your grading levels will be the minimum score required to pass the assignment, use this option to select which level that is.

Please note for a grading system to be valid it must meet the following criteria:

  • A complete range from 0 to 100 with no gaps
  • At least two grading levels.

Learning Outcomes

A learning outcome what you the learner will be marked against for any activity. For each learning outcome you can set a number of criteria. 

Intro

Each assignment will have an introduction page, where you can set out the Assignment for your learners. You can set:

  • Heading, this is taken from the title of your assignment but can be amended.
  • Body text, where you can write the main message for your learners.
  • Override confirmation text, each Assignment has a confirmation message that the learner confirm they are who they say they are. If you wish to customise this message, select this option and enter your own message.
  • Learner resources. If you wish to attach any resources, such as guides or supporting documents you can add them here.

Feedback

Once the assignment has been marked and the grades released back to your learners, they will see see a feedback screen with their grade and either a failure or success message. To override either of these you can select the option and enter in your own messages.

Version

Similar to other content in your Enable LMS, you can manage the version history of any changes. 

Activity Properties

Each activity has the following properties you can set.

  • Title. The main title of your activity.
  • Description. Further details about your activity. 
  • Activity scoring by. The method you wish your assessors score the activity.
    • Pass/Fail. A binary choice between passing the activity or failing it.
    • Numerical. A number from 0 to the value of the activity. For example, an activity worth 10 points can be scored from 0 to 10.
  • Activity Value. How many points this activity is worth.
  • Learner Activity resources. Any specific resources for learners related to this activity.
  • Assessor Activity resources. Any specific resources for assessors related to this activity.
  • Criteria. You can assign Learning outcome criteria to an activity.
  • Assessor Guidance. Any activity guidance specific for the assessor.
