Learning Plans are a way to automate the allocation of learning to your users. They give you the ability to set rules and conditions on what learning gets allocated and when. Learning Plans are feature for your Enable LMS. If you do not have access to Enable LMS, please get in touch with our Customer Service team.

Creating a Learning Plan

  1. Access Learning Plan creation from 'Content Creation' and 'Learning Plans' in your Main Menu.
  2. From the list of Learning Plans, select 'Create'.
  3. Enter a name for your Learning Plan and select 'Create', you will be then taken to the Learning Plan Editor.

Learning Plan Editor

The learning plan editor is where you will build up your leaning plan, or "blueprint" of learning. A learning plan is made up of nodes - modules or rules - and connections between them. Each learning plan begins with a start node.

Adding Learning Content

  1. From the start node, select the 'Start' end point with your mouse, and click and drag into the background so you can see a grey line across the screen.
  2. Select if you wish to add Module or Learning Collection (if your Enable LMS has access to Learning Collections) and select 'Add'.
  3. You can now a learning item node (Module or Learning Collection) into your learning plan. From the Module Allocation Properties on the right hand side of the screen, go to 'Select Module' or 'Select Learning Collection' to add your desired course into the Learning Plan. When you have been successful, the box will turn green.
  4. You can also set other properties for the Learning Plan in the Module Allocation Properties page. Please see below for full list of functions.

Once a module is added you can change it by selecting 'Change'. You can also preview the module, to ensure it is the correct one.

You can have multiple connections from a single node. For example, you can allocate a number of courses from the Start node.

Managing Nodes on your Learning Plan

All nodes you add to your learning plan can be moved by selecting and dragging it to where you want it to be. Each node will have an input and outputs. To edit an individual node's properties, you can select it on it, which will launch the properties for it.

Module Allocation Properties

For each module node you add, you can set the following allocation properties.

  • Only Assessments Mandatory: If your module contains assessments you can mark all other content as completed. This is useful for refresher training where you may not want your users to go through it all again.
  • Delay Allocation: By default, any action from the previous node will happen instantly. If you wish to delay the allocation then select this. You can then set a period of time and when the allocation is given to your learners. This is useful for having regular refresher training automatically allocated to your learners after they have completed their initial training course.
  • Set Deadline: You can set a deadline date and time from the point of the initial allocation. You can also add any reminders to encourage your learners to complete their training.
  • Unlink All Inputs: To remove any existing inputs for this node, you can select this button. You will be asked to confirm this action.
  • Send email on Module/Learning Collection Allocation: Selecting this option will prompt an email to be sent to the learners containing the module/learning collection details once the allocation has been created.

Logic Nodes

To help you make the most of your learning plan, there are the 'And' and 'Or' logic nodes. These allow you to control what learning is allocated to your users.

And Node

The And node will check to make sure that all it's input conditions have been met before it will continue with it's output. This is useful if you wish for a learner to complete a set of modules before they are allocated any further learning.

Or Node

The Or node will check if any of the input conditions have been met before it will continue with its output.

Deleting Nodes

To remove a node, you can select the 'X' button on the node. You will be presented with two options.

  • Only remove this node. Will only remove the node you have selected.
  • Remove this node and all child nodes. This will remove any node which has an output connection from it.

Saving Learning Plans

You can save your learning plan in two states, Draft or Published. Draft Learning Plans will not be accessible for use in the allocations. It is recommended to save your learning plan regularly as a draft as you create it. Once your learning plan is ready for allocation, you can publish it. As with other content in your Enable LMS, learning plans are versioned. This means if you make further changes to your learning plan, those on the current version will continue while new allocations will have the updated version.

You can only save a learning plan if it is in a valid state. That means all the following conditions must be met.

  • No empty module or learning collection nodes.
  • No nodes which are not connected to the start node, either directly or by other nodes.
